soon I will send word about last Friday's session with poet/philosopher John Koethe. However, in the meantime I wanted to send word about 2 events this week involving WGCP members: one is reading by Charles Douthat and Christina O'Connor; the other is a reading by Kevin Holden and Kenneth Reveiz.

Enjoy,

THE WRITING HUB FINAL READING -- THIS THURSDAY at 6:30PM at the Institute Library (847 Chapel St.)

Join the exceptionally talented student writers of Co-Op High School at the Institute Library to celebrate their work in the Writing Hub, a creative writing afterschool program at the Coop Center for Creativity. With Kaneesha Parsard, Kenneth Reveiz, and Kalli Angel as co-facilitators, the students have been exploring poetic genres and producing some really wonderful work.

Headlining will be three of New Haven's most gifted poets and performers:

AARON JAFFERIS has performed his hip hop poetry at Madison Square Garden, the Ke nnedy Center, and the National Poetry Slam Championships, where he is a former Open Rap Slam champion. His hip hop musical Kingdom (music by Ian Williams) premiered at The Old Globe in 2009, and has been produced or developed by the Public Theater, ReVision Theatre, Queens Theatre in the Park, the National Alliance for Musical Theatre, the International Community Arts Festival in The Netherlands, John Jay College, and Bregamos Community Theatre. Awards for Kingdom include a 2008 Richard Rodgers Award from the American Academy of Arts & Letters, Best Musical and Best Book of 2008-09 by the New Jersey Star-Ledger, and Most Promising New Musical at the 2006 New York Musical Theatre Festival.

KEVIN HOLDEN is the author of two books, "Alpine" (White Queen) and
"Identity" (Cannibal Books). His poetry has appeared widely in
magazines and journals and has been anthologized, most recently in
"The Arcadia Project" (Ahsahta Press). His translations of poetry from
Russian and French have also been published, most recently in
"Pyramid" and "Aufgabe." He received an MFA from Iowa in 2008, where
he then taught. He currently studies and teaches at Yale and is
working on a book about meaning in poetry, focusing especially on the
work of Paul Celan. He works also on ontology, the philosophy of
mathematics, art history, and queer theory. He is the editor of the
journal "Heliograph" and a teacher at the New Haven Free Skool.

GABRIEL CHRISTIAN, Hudson River born, is a performer and rising senior at Yale. Though he got his feet wet late, he hasn't left the stream since. With Kenneth Reveiz, he is an organizer at the People's Arts Collective of New Haven.
