[Wgcp-whc] Friday session--Robertson books (update)

Dear All,

I wanted to be in touch about our next session and where things stand. As of right now, we would still like to still have the session planned for this Friday. We cannot push back this session until the the 22nd because there is a small press event at the Beinecke that day, so this Friday is our only option.

Now, there is the additional problem of the books. These were supposed to arrive last Friday and we were to begin distributing them at that time. Unfortunately, the Beinecke closed due to the blizzard before it was clear if they had arrived. And of course, the Beinecke is still closed (until tomorrow). So, it could be that the books are there waiting and we could make them available tomorrow. It could also be that the books didn't arrive and may even be further delayed because of all the chaos due to the storm. The initial problem had been that even though the books were ordered well ahead of time, the shipment kept getting delayed and delayed. This had also been the case with with Lehman's book. It's starting to seem that the publishing world is in even rougher shape than we all suspect.

So, one option might be that if the books can be made available tomorrow, then we will meet on Friday and just do the best we can given the fact that people will barely have had time even to glance at the poems and essays. If the books haven't arrived, then we will make the books available whenever they appear and instead of having a pre-visit discussion of Robertson's work this Friday, we'll next meet on March 1 at the session with her. The fact that she reads the night before means that at least some of us will be able to get a sense of the work beyond just the books and that will facilitate discussion.

And people have asked: we're seeing if we might be able to reschedule Lehman's visit for late this semester, though logistics on both sides make that tricky.

Amidst the drifts of snow and slush,
Richard Deming, Group Coordinator
