Dear all,

It is with great sadness that we write to inform you of the tragic loss of Dawoon (Sheri) Choi, a beloved member of our Psychology Department community. Sheri died at Yale New Haven Hospital yesterday after experiencing a medical emergency while swimming. Words cannot express how devastated we are. Our hearts break for Sheri’s husband Nick, her family, and all of her friends within and outside of the Yale community.

Please know that there is support and help available to each of you at this time. We have listed a few of these resources below.

We will hold space for everyone in Room 1417 today from 3-4pm, together with staff from Mental Health and Counseling and the Chaplain’s Office, to provide support for our community to process this together. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to support you as we all navigate this tremendous loss together.

Students may contact Mental Health and Counseling any time, even on weekends, by calling (203) 432-0290. Faculty, post-docs, and staff may contact OPTUM, the Yale Employee Assistance Program, any time at (866) 416-6586. The Chaplain's Office can also be reached at (203) 432-1128 or through the website chaplain.yale.edu<https://chaplain.yale.edu/> where you can sign up for an appointment to talk with a chaplain on the same day. No religious affiliation is necessary.

Sheri’s family has requested respect for their privacy at this difficult time.
