David Rakoff, who adapted and acts in The New Tenants (Academy Award winning film for "Best Short Film, Live Action") will introduce the film and
participate in a post-screening conversation. He is an essayist, journalist, actor, and a regular contributor to Public Radio International's This American Life, hosted by Ira Glass. Rakoff is known for his humorous, sometimes autobiographical non-fiction essays, describing himself as "a 'New York writer' who also happens to be a 'Canadian writer', a 'Jewish writer', a 'gay writer' and an 'East Asian Studies major who has forgotten most of his Japanese.'" He has also published two bestselling collections of essays, Fraud (Doubleday 2001) and Don't Get Too Comfortable (Doubleday 2005); both were awarded the Lambda Literary Award in the "Humor" category. His third book of essays Half Empty is due to be published in 2010.
