Last week, Steven Arakawa forwarded a message from OCLC notifying us
that their problems with authority file searching had been resolved.
Well, now there is a NEW problem affecting the personal name browse
index. Sigh. Read below.

Subject: New Known problem added
A new known problem impacting the Client has been added to the Known
problems page:
The new entry (noted below) covers the situation when browse queries are
resulting in error messages. Staff are continuing to investigate both
the problem and its resolution, and updates will be posted to this list.
To clarify, the System Alert problem impacting authorities (noted at the
end of this message) and updated to RESOLVED status impacted the ability
to search the authority file using derived key searching. Some users
also report the problems with keyword searching.
Should users experience any problems involving derived key and/or
keyword searching, please contact your Regional Service Provider or
OCLC's Customer Service Support Staff.
Thank you for your patience,
--Becky

NEWLY ADDED KNOWN PROBLEM
Some browses for authority personal name headings fail; you get an error
message. Some personal name browses result in the error message, "Transaction
failed. Your host connection may have been lost." This problem appears
to affect only the Personal Names (pn:) browse index.
Workarounds:
* Truncate the browse query to fewer characters.
Example: A browse for the personal name heading Lyon, Gary results in
the error message, but a browse for Lyon returns correct results.
Or
* For this index, use keyword or derived key searching instead of
browsing.
