Dear NACO catalogers:

OCLC has introduced two new labels in the
authority file since we had our OCLC NACO training last fall:

1. "Children's" label

When you search the subject authority file, LC
Juvenile subject headings (010 prefix 'sj' and
008/15 = b), which we are NOT supposed to use
here at Yale, now display with a label for easier
identification in the list of search results.
Previously it was difficult to distinguish these
headings from other Library of Congress Subject authority records.

Example of a heading with the new label:

         150 Pigs [CHILDREN'S]

Unfortunately, the label only displays when you "search" not when you "browse".

You might want to annotate your training manual (see p. 19).

2. "In Distribution" label

When you create an authority record and add it to
the Online Authority File (or when you or update
an authority record and replace the record in the
Online Authority File), you now see an "In
Distribution" label on the upper right-hand corner of the record.

This indicates that the record is in the process
of being sent by OCLC to the Library of Congress
and then redistributed by LC to the various NACO
nodes (OCLC, RLIN, BL). This corresponds to what
was called the "pending" phase in RLIN.

You might want to annotate your training manual (see p. 28 and p. 29).
