Ruling on 374 plurals: from Task Group to Formulate or Recommend PCC/NACO RDA Policy on Autority Issues -12a: 3xx in general Recommendation, February 24, 2012:

“Occupation (RDA 9.16)
Prefer controlled vocabulary such as LCSH or MeSH, recording the source in subfield $2. For consistency, capitalize the first term in each subfield. When terms do not come from a controlled vocabulary, use a singular form.”

i.e. plural when #2 lcsh

10 Ewing and Allen, Architects 372 – Capitalize the first word in subfield A; 670/2 needs final closing parenthesis, no final punctuation

12 Bernal, Jesús, 1976- 374 – The plurals seem odd to me, even if from lcsh. Is this what we’re supposed to do?

34 Convento de Regina Coeli (Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Spain) 670/1 – Delete final punctuation. Looks O.K. to me otherwise. Question about 370. Is subfield e sufficient, or do we also need to provide subfield c?

32 De Fornaris, Fabrizio, -1637? I updated by adding 370 (he’s Neopolitan, but wasn’t sure of the connection) and 400/3; removed period from final 370

11 Cini, Desiderio 370 is now subfield a; added 374 Dramatist (partially following SRA’s suggestion to use Dramatists |2lcsh Can we get a ruling on the singular plural issue for 374?

24 Briccio, Giovanni, 1581-1646 I updated by changing 370 from subfield e to subfield a and updated 370/3 to show he was born in Rome

2 Biancolelli, Orsola, -1718 I updated by adding 370

23 Obregón Goyarrola, Fernando, 1968- 374 plurals seem jarring. MARC format gives singular example.

35 Rodríguez Duarte, Ma. del Carmen 374 plurals again?

37 Schweizer Alpenclub. Sektion Lägern  Schweizer Alpen-Club is established in NAF. Doesn’t that mean we can’t establish this subordinate body as RDA?

3 Sanden, Gabriel, 1885-1933 Looks O.K.

Bianchi, Lodovico  (no2012103131; inadvertently produced, but it can still be updated if necessary) Didn’t update with 374 Dramatist, but it could be done. Not required.
