Subject: DCM Z1 February 2014 update in Cataloger's Desktop now available

Hi everyone,

The February 2014 update to Cataloger's Desktop is completed.

Here are some highlights of the DCM Z1 instructions included in this update:

DCM Z1 008/32

The prohibition on the creation of RDA undifferentiated names with guidelines on how to handle undoing the "last identity standing" on an AACR2 undifferentiated name authority record. (There have been some additional minor changes to this instruction made after the deadline for the February Cataloger's Desktop update. These will be incorporated into the April 2014 Cataloger's Desktop update, and I have posted this version on the Post RDA Implementation Guidelines and Standards<http://www.loc.gov/aba/pcc/rda/PCC%20RDA%20guidelines/Post-RDA-Implementation-Guidelines.html> page on the PCC web site).

DCM Z1 024

Other standard identifier - procedures have been added for supplying identifiers and handling duplicates, etc.

DCM Z1 5XX

A reminder that the former NACO conflict resolution practice of using a 500 field in a personal name authority record, when a variant in that record conflicts with an existing 1XX in another authority record, is no longer an option. A suitable designation may be added to the variant to resolve the conflict, or, less desirable on account of BFM, but still possible, a suitable designation may be added to the 1XX in the other record to resolve the conflict.

DCM Z1 382

Medium of performance: best practices from the Music community for applying information in this field has been added.

Thanks,

Paul
