Authorities in a Non-MARC Environment:
In April 2013, the "Report for PCC Task Group on the Creation and Function of Name Authorities in a Non-MARC Environment<http://www.loc.gov/aba/pcc/rda/RDA%20Task%20groups%20and%20charges/ReportPCCTGonNameAuthInA_NonMARC_Environ_FinalReport.pdf>" was finalized.
As part of the follow-up to this report, the PCC Policy Committee invited the PCC community at large to address the challenges presented in the report, including:
How to relate external named entity identifiers and information to library authority data;
How to relate external named entity identifiers and information to library bibliographic data;
How to structure library authority data to optimize its utility in a linked data environment as well as in library systems.
Individuals and groups were challenged to develop their ideas around these issues and share them with the PCC Policy Committee. The presentations given during this panel discussion evolved from projects designed to address these challenges.
Panel members:
Jennifer Liss and Carl Horne (Indiana University)
Christine Eslao (Harvard)
Philip E. Schreur (Stanford)
Sincerely,
Les Hawkins
