Dear Colleagues,

As you may know, we are now in the process of upgrading production ArchivesSpace from 2.4.3 to 2.7.1. This upgrade will include both enhancements and bug fixes, as well as custom development.

Some highlights from core product enhancements include:
- Improvement to the handling of language-of-description and language-of-material values
- Improved background job processing
- New reporting functionality.

A complete list of changes is available in the release notes here<https://nam05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2Farchivesspace%2Farchivesspace%2Freleases&data=02%7C01%7Cchristy.tomecek%40yale.edu%7C2746c33ffd614dc650c208d84acb31a1%7Cdd8cbebb21394df8b4114e3e87abeb5c%7C0%7C0%7C637341583849956224&sdata=GxCvcY%2FF8d%2BkjkSvw8cUuiiOv84baPRCsLsAjbGYjLc%3D&reserved=0>.

This upgrade will also draw in enhancements from our FY20 development cycle, including:
- An improved repository landing page
- Better handling of certain searches
- Faceting to allow users of the PUI to filter materials by what is onsite vs. offsite.

The upgrade process has a number of steps, and we would like to take a moment to explain what is happening in more detail.

- 8/26 (Earlier this week): Lyrasis took a copy of our production database and installed it on a new QA server
- 8/27 to 8/31: QA server performs indexing on database to incorporate new features
- 8/31 (evening): Lyrasis restarts production, new plugins pulled in - up to 3 hours of downtime expected starting after working hours
- 9/1 to 9/4: "In-place" reindex - production will reindex itself again, but no downtime is expected. Performance may be slightly degraded in the staff interface

It is possible that the indexing process will take longer than expected. If this happens we will send a new message with an updated timeline.

Thank you for your patience while we apply these updates and we look forward to sharing more information as this process is completed. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Best wishes,
Christy (on behalf of YAMS)
