[Yale ArchivesSpace] CAS Login to ArchivesSpace Staff Interface - Production Rollout This Week

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for asking and I'm sorry I didn't directly address this in the previous email!

If you don't have an ArchivesSpace staff account at all (e.g., new staff member), then when you hit the "Yale NetID Login" button you will have an account created automatically. You are also taken to the user information page to update your own metadata (e.g., name, email, etc.). However, the new account has no privileges by default, so an admin from each repository will still need to assign you appropriate access.

I know we'd initially talked about also defining default access based on organizational roles, but the version of the CAS Plug-In that we modified didn't have this feature. Therefore automatic permission assignment is something we'll have to revisit once we're confident that the CAS login process is working in this simpler state.

Dear ArchivesSpace Users,

You may have noticed in the test instance of ArchivesSpace<https://testarchivesspace.library.yale.edu/> that there is a new option to log in with CAS - it's the blue button at the top of the sign-in modal that says "Yale NetID login:"

This feature is coming to production this week.

If you have an ArchivesSpace account, then when you click on the "Yale NetID Login" button you will be redirected to CAS to enter your Yale NetID and password. You'll then be returned to ArchivesSpace and signed into your account. If you do not have an ArchivesSpace account then you will be taken to the account information page to update your details before an account is created for you automatically.

There are a few things to know:

  *   This is an extra (easier) way to log in - your existing ArchivesSpace password is still active, and logging in using the username and password field below the CAS button is still an option and will log you into the same account.
  *   NetID passwords cannot be used for API access. You'll still need to use your existing ArchivesSpace username/password combination when you log into the API

YAMS has approved for this change to be rolled out to production, which will take place the evening of 2/25, so CAS login will be an option starting on 2/26. We expect a momentary production outage while this change is applied.
