Dear colleagues,
I am very pleased to announce that all records sent by YUL staff to MARS
Authority Control (AC) processing via ExportQ since February 2005 have now
been re-loaded to Orbis and released from the ExportQ.
Our weekly AC processing schedule was suspended in February when Backstage
purchased MARS from OCLC, who was its previous owner. Since then, the list
of records marked by ExportQ has been growing... and growing... and growing.
The number of ExportQ records that required Authority Control processing
from MARS reached 100,900 by the time we loaded the last set of records. We
also loaded 48,677 authority records that were generated by MARS
processing. The Production Systems Team, and Gail Barnett and Bob Rice from
ITS, all worked aggressively to make these updated bib records and new
authority records available to library staff.
We began processing the ExportQ backlog in October and are happy to report
that on December 1, we completed 8 1/2 months of work in 1 1/2 month's
time. The total number of records loaded for this backlog is 149,577.

We resumed our regular weekly MARS processing schedule this week, and
loaded the first file of updated bibs and new authority records yesterday
(12/8). The weekly process involves:
1) Sending a file of approximately 2,500 bibliographic records from the
previous week marked in ExportQ by YUL staff to MARS for Authority Control
processing (these are the "red records" that flash red when viewed with the
ExportQ client).
2) After processing them (this take about two to three days), MARS sends
our records back to us with updated headings, plus a file of new authority
records. Both files of records are then loaded to production Orbis.
3) A program runs through the "red records" to "release" them from the
ExportQ. MARS processing is done for the week- now rinse and repeat!
Many thanks to all who contributed to completing this project, and best
wishes for a great holiday season (and Voyager upgrade)!
