colleagues---
please excuse the several postings to YulCat last Friday. we had tried to
send the messages more than once before it was discovered that on Friday
that messages posted to YulCat and YuLib were being archived but were not
being sent to the list. this problem has been rectified.
on to the next problem--
members of the Catalog Dept. have been recently noticing that LC call
numbers for oversize items, correctly formatted in the MFHD's 852 field,
are appearing on the Item Record without the word "Oversize" in the Call #
field. Integrated Library Technology Services (a.k.a. the Systems Office)
has contacted Endeavor, and they are looking into the problem.
its been determined that the "missing "Oversize"" in the item record has no
effect on the spine labeling program; that labels for LC call#s for
oversize items are indeed being produced with the word "Oversize" in the
Call#, in spite of the word not appearing on the item record.
ergo, cancel the request that members of the Catalog Dept. are asked to put
aside any oversize items and not send them to Preparations.
we'll continue to keep you informed.
thanks, ellen jaramillo.
