If you use Cataloger's Desktop, read the following. I've just checked with
Ernie & it is OK to follow the procedure recommended by Bruce Johnson
before you leave on Friday.

** High Priority **

Colleagues:

We have been notified by our contractor that the connection by which
Cataloger's Desktop is attached to the internet will experience a major
upgrade. As you know, we have been working with our contractor to improve
system response time and overall speed, and this upgrade should both
improve speed as well as overall system capacity. Internet techies often
refer to this as "broadening the pipe" through which data passes.

The upgrade will take place at approximately midnight on Friday night /
Saturday morning Eastern standard time (GMT -5). CDS staff and our
contractor's staff will be monitoring the switch, and should there be any
problems the internet connection will be switched back to the current
architecture.

In order for your computer to access Cataloger's Desktop through the
new internet connection, it will be necessary for you to re-boot your
computer after the enhancement is installed. Unless your institution has
other protocals about re-booting workstations, please consider turning off
your computer on Friday when you leave work and turn it back on when you
return to work (which for most of us will be Monday morning). If your
institution's IT department prefers that users not turn off their machines,
please remember to re-boot on Monday morning.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you
very much for your continued support.

Bruce
