[Yulcat-l] New Yale SACO headings

I just updated the list of subject headings that 
have been successfully proposed by Yale 
catalogers to LC through the SACO program: 
http://www.library.yale.edu/cataloging/authorities/saco.htm

The following headings were accepted for 
inclusion in LCSH during the past year or so:
    * Bagnell Dam (Mo.)
    * Copper Queen Mine (Ariz.)
    * El Mozote Massacre, El Mozote, El Salvador, 1981
    * El Salvador--History--Revolution, 1932
    * Progo River (Indonesia)
    * Tirtayasa Site (Indonesia)
    * Waterphone music
    * Waterphone (Musical instrument)
This heading was updated with additional cross-references:
    * Seven Reductions, War of the, 1754-1756
The proposals were made by the following people: 
Steven Arakawa, Todd Fell, Mickey Koth, Dorothy 
Rachmat, Karen Spicher, Keiko Suzuki, and me.

I'd also like to note that students working for 
the Catalog Dept. helped develop the proposals 
for some of these headings. Two graduate students 
from the Dept. of Spanish and Portuguese have 
been doing some heading maintenance work for us 
this year - as a side project, taking advantage 
of their language expertise, I suggested that 
they help me clean up the "History" subdivisions 
under some of the Latin American countries. In 
addition to making the existing chronological 
subdivisions consistent, they have been reviewing 
headings that lack chronological subdivisions to 
see if it would be appropriate to add any and 
they have been keeping an eye out for books about 
historical events that lack specific subject 
headings and thus might make good SACO proposals. 
Once a potential heading has been identified, 
they have helped do the required research and 
identify other books that might need the subject 
heading applied retrospectively. It's been a fun 
project and there are a few more SACO proposals in the pipeline right now...

I hope I haven't forgotten anyone - let me know 
if you've had a proposal accepted recently and I'll add it to the list!
