The Library of Congress will be implementing a new method for entering
classification proposals directly into the LC Classification schedules on
Monday, November 13, 2006. PCC Libraries that are SACO Members - and all
SACO-Only institutions are requested to visit
http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/saco/ClassWeb/LCClassification.html
which outlines the new Class Web procedures for submitting Classification
proposals. All SACO contributors who are Class Web subscribers are to
begin using the system on Monday, November 13, 2006, but not sooner.

For proposals that are already in the SACO pipeline, Coop staff will be
keying the data into the new system before forwarding to the Cataloging
Policy and Support Office, Classification Editorial Team beginning on that
date.

Please be patient as this new method of working directly in the LC Class
schedules is implemented.

We ask that the PCC participants refrain from contributing until Monday,
when the new mechanism should be up and running. Please do not input any
proposals before Nov. 13, as all proposals that are currently in the system
will be deleted over the weekend of Nov. 11-12 in order to start with a
clean slate on Nov. 13.

Again, I remind each of you to visit the new LC Classification Procedures:
Using Class Web page whose URL is given above. All documentation is
provided for you there. A link from the SACO Home Page will also lead you
directly to this new information.

Thank you,

John N. Mitchell
SACO Coordinator
