"Well-intentioned practice for putting digitized collections of unpublished materials online" and Other Outputs from Undue Diligence Meeting Now Available
Is this a practice you can adopt?
Following the Undue Diligence<http://www.oclc.org/research/events/2010-03-11.htm> meeting in San Mateo, California on 11 March, copyright experts, practitioners and staff from OCLC Research agreed on what is a reasonable approach to rights when making digitized collections of unpublished materials accessible via the Web.
The resulting one-page document, "Well-intentioned practice for putting digitized collections of unpublished materials online<http://www.oclc.org/research/activities/rights/practice.pdf>," is now being circulated in hopes that it will be widely accepted and form a community of practice, allowing individual archivists and librarians to act confidently as they increase access to archival and special collections. We think this will go a long way toward breaking up the logjam caused by being overly risk-averse. We're eager to hear reactions, get examples of those implementing the practice or something like it, and to learn of people or organizations willing to endorse it.
* Check out the webinar recordings, slides and audio files from the Undue Diligence meeting in the agenda section of the event<http://www.oclc.org/research/events/2010-03-11.htm> page.
* Review background for this work and follow new developments on the "Introduce Balance in Rights Management<http://www.oclc.org/research/activities/rights>" activity page.
* Contact Ricky Erway<mailto:erwayr at oclc.org> with questions or comments.
