Subject: [Desktop] Interval release to Cataloger's Desktop

Colleagues:

A number of updates were made to Cataloger's Desktop yesterday evening. Although the next issue of Desktop is not scheduled to be released until July, updates to Resource Description and Access (RDA) and Library of Congress Policy Statements (LCPS) needed to be issued sooner.

The following content updates were issued as a part of the June 12th interval release:

. RDA update
. Descriptive Cataloging Manual: 2012 Update 2-3 . Library of Congress Policy Statements: 2012 Update 3 . MARC 21 Format for Authority Data: Update 14, April 2012 . MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data: Update 14, April 2012 . 73 web resources were re-crawled and re-indexed . Please note that the recent changes to the PCC website have only been partially addressed. The remaining changes will be incorporated into the July 11th issue of Cataloger's Desktop.

Several functional enhancements were issued as a part of the June 12th interval release:

. Changes were made to personalizations to make them more flexible to individual users.
o If you look at the rail (that's the column of icons on the left-hand side of Cataloger's Desktop) you will notice that the icon that was previously at the bottom (it looked like a clock) is gone. That icon previously allowed you to save your current session. It is now a part of the icon above it.
o The "Bookmark and Session history" icon (it looks like a star) now at the bottom of the rail has been renamed "My favorites" and now includes all personalizations: Session history, Bookmarks, Saved searches, Shortcuts. It is now possible to add all types of personalizations to a folder that you name and create at the top of the "My favorites" pane. The folder is editable by following the instructions in the "Folders" section.
o A Quick tips for "My favorites" is currently being developed by LC's Cooperative & Instructional Programs Division and will be posted when it is completed.

. The document pane's reference window (this is just above the text and shows you where you are) now includes additional detail. For example. If you are looking at the MARC Bibliographic 600 field and click the link for the Second Indicator 3 (National Agricultural Library subject authority file), the reference window will read " MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data  - Variable Data Fields  - 6XX Subject Access Fields  - 600 Subject Added Entry-Personal Name (R)  - 600 ind. 2 - 3 " at the link destination. The information "-- 600 ind. 2 - 3" was not previously provided and should make it easier to know where you are.

. Cataloger's Desktop account administrators can now determine the level of Desktop usage by logging into the account administration interface and selecting the "Click here for usage statistics" link at the top of the page.
o To administer your master account, go to the Cataloger's Desktop login page http://desktop.loc.gov and click the "Administer Account" link at the bottom of the screen.
o This will take you to the "Account Administration Login" page. Login with the master account login (NOT your personal login.) o Select the "Click here for usage statistics" link at the top of the page.

. Changes were made to the subscription renewal system to ensure that account administrators are notified when subscriptions are due for renewal.

As always please let us know if there is anything we can do to make Cataloger's Desktop more useful for you. Thank you for your continued support.
