Index Herbariorum has a new data update procedure!  You can now make updates to your own record.

To do this, go to the Index Herbariorum home page (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__sweetgum.nybg.org_science_ih_-29http-3A__sweetgum.nybg.org_science_ih_&d=DwIF-g&c=cjytLXgP8ixuoHflwc-poQ&r=LpYc_Z_iN1KRw0hheb3x6-8MJUMu482qfHowpGYJqwc&m=RZUeClxAZxb1yUII5xuRjYcUci4JLSHbBI7YE4cs8wo&s=6VwJKTYmH-IHogX4nWw_ml-CpesC8Gb6bJunnpKClEc&e= and search for the code for your institution.

On the Herbarium Details page for your herbarium, note that there is a button at the upper left that says "Edit." Click on this button.

You will now see a screen with your institution's data in editable boxes.  Make your corrections as needed.  Note that we now can hold more information about the contents of your collection.  There are boxes for a text description of both the taxonomic and geographic contents, and there is a table you can fill in to indicate the numbers  of holdings of different types of organisms in your collection, as well as their digitization status.  Finally, you can now add the website URL for your searchable specimen data and indicate the data portals through which your data are shared.

Note that to correct information about a person, click on that person’s name to bring up their record, and click on the ‘edit’ button to view the editable version.  You can also create a record for a new person from an existing person’s record (it will not replace the existing person's record).

Self-registration is now available for herbaria.  To register a new herbarium,

1. Select a code for your herbarium that is six or fewer letters – no numbers or other symbols. Test to be sure your code is not already in use by searching for it in the Index.

2. Gather all the data you will need to complete the form online – we recommend that you put the data in the form and circulate to other staff to obtain all needed updates at one time.

3. Once the registration form document is complete, transfer this information to the online registration forms:

Please be sure to  check the box at the bottom of the form indicating that you are not a robot.  This is to cut down on spam responses.  When you have completed and saved your entries, the editor of IH will receive an email with these changes.  We will review your request and then either contact you with any questions we may have about the request or approve the changes directly.

All approved changes will appear on line after the next overnight re-indexing of the database.  Entries received on weekends will not appear until the following week.
