Dear Friends and Colleagues -

With my retirement these mailing have just about stopped. But I
thought I would share this delightful news with you, about my friend
and mentor Richard Benson, who more than anyone else got me grounded
in photography, and the printing of it. These pursuits have become
prominent parts of my life.

Richard Benson: The Printed Picture
http://www.benson.readandnote.com/

This website was created collaboratively by Richard Benson, photographer,
teacher, and former dean of the Yale School of Art, and the Museum of Modern
Art (MoMA). The site is based on The Printed Picture exhibition that was on
view October 17, 2008 - July 13, 2009 at MoMA. The website provides a
comprehensive education in all the primary methods used for printing
pictures - relief, intaglio, planographic, and photographic. There are eight
hours of Benson's recorded lectures available here, along with "additional
images and details, allowing visitors to the site to draw their own path
through its contents." The lectures conclude with Benson musing about the
value of reproducing images.

At the end of this academic year these mailings will have to cease
altogether. I was adjunct faculty all my life, bridging the real
engineering world I continue to work in, and teaching about it. My
(now courtesy) appointment as adjunct runs out in June 2012, after 50
continuous years at Yale, starting as a graduate student in 1962.
Since there is no such thing as "Adjunct Emeritus," I will lose my
Yale identity and access to lists like this.

But you'll hear some more from me before then.

All the best and Happy Thanksgiving! --Peter
