I'm not - but I do a lot of work in dance scholarship. One of the
earliest images of the Japanese abroad that is reported is a samurai in
the 18th c I believe dancing in Europe with his swords on.
In Japan itself, probably the place that ballroom dancing and other
Western fashions first caught on was the Rokumeikan.
