Hello,
       Biographically I have found, and you probaly know this, he was born 
June 22,1923 in Hiroshima and died in 1981.  
Suposedly he was in films as early as 1942. Other than SEVEN SAMURAI, his 
most widely known roles were in STRAY DOG (NORA INU) and BLACK LIZARD, OKUMAN 
CHOJA, is not readily available but you should be able to get it somewhere 
(at least in Japanese) as it is made by Ichikawa Kon. JOEN (The Affair) was 
directed by Yoshida Yoshishige, who is considered a minor new wave director. 
Finally Shinoda's ANSATSU (The Assasin) and the early version of YUKIGUNI 
(Snow Country) should also be available. You probably know mostif not all of 
this information, if you would like a list of what I think his filmography is 
(at least State side releases) let me know.
