NHK documentary on Umi no momotaro

I saw the show you mentioned, but didn't sense bitterness. It was more like
curiosity that these two cultures would approach the film so differently.
They actually made this point in a pretty amazing way, by showing the
theater trailers from America and France back to back. The French version
emphasized the relationship between Prince Akashi and Princess Mononoke. The
pace was slow, music romantic, and it showed off the artfullness of the
animation. The American version, by contrast, was all action and bloodshed.
Made me proud to be 'Merikan.
(By the way, there's also a frame by frame record of the two trailers in the
program Ghibli has in the theaters right now.)
