There were regular showings of Japanese films in LA and San Francisco as
early as the 1920s and perhaps before. (Hawai'i as well if you want to
include occupied territories/colonies.) To attempt to find a "first film"
you'd have to look in Rafu Shinpo and other Japanese newspapers of the time,
but you'd never find an adequate answer.
