of course I don't know what you've seen but you should be aware that vcd
quality can be quite varied. some can be better than standard video, while
others can be as you say trashy, depending on how much effort was spent on
the mastering and when the disc was released, with recent ones usually far
superior to older titles. I agree its hardly an ideal format, especially
when watching action sequences (or, worst of all, any scene set in a
night-club - vcd just can't handle all those flashing lights)  but it is
cheap (quite an incentive after 3 years of college wreaking havoc with your
finances) and if its the only way of seeing something it seems to me to be
worth it e.g. the movie 'Shin no Shikoutei' I posted about a couple of weeks
ago - where else am I going to see THAT any time soon?
