Tom,
I'm not at all sure this is the sort of thing you're looking for but there
is Fran Kuzui's TOKYO POP (1988) that features some pretty interesting
glimpses of Japan pop rockers. This isn't anything I know a whole lot about
but IMBD notes mention something about a group called Papaya Paranoia's
appearance....
