Hello fellow suscribers to the KineJapan List,

My name is Eric Draper, and I am entering my junior year at Davidson
College in North Carolina. I am really excited to have found this resource.
My interest in Japanese film originated four years ago with a chance viewing
of Kurosawa's Throne of Blood. Since then, though I have seen almost all of
Kurosawa's work and value them very highly, I have also been delighted to
discover that his style is only one aspect of a very diverse film culture.
My favorites are probably Tokyo Monogatari, Seven Samurai, Woman in the
Dunes, and After Life. Pretty conventional. I am presently an English
major, but am also applying for a major in the general field of East Asian
Studies, which I would try to adapt to my interests in Japanese film. There
is no Japanese department at my school, so I'm working mostly from works by
Donald Richie and Audie Bock. To supplement this (and, of course, for
personal reasons) I am working on my Japanese language ability, and will be
traveling to Japan (for the first time!) in. . .three days. . .to study
intermediate Japanese. I'm sure the resources of KineJapan and the
discussion on the listserver will do wonders to fill in my very rudimentary
knowledge of film theory and my curiosity about Japanese film in specific.
Thank you for your time.

-Eric Draper
