self-introduction (subtitling technologies)

Hello Michael,

Mentioning subtitling, could you (or anyone on this list)
point out some directions on how to create (computer
generated?) video subtitles that could accompany both film
and video projections?

I think someone here mentioned a presentation about this
subject at the recent meeting of Japanese film scholars in
Hawai. Is that presentation available in some form?

Also, do you have any recommendations regarding the tools
(software, hardware) to be used?
