 Tasogare Seibei was warmly applauded at the end of the press screening I
attended (I later attended a public screening where the reaction was
quite the same)

During the press conference with Yoji Yamada and Min Tanaka, a
sharp-tongued American journalist who spoke stated something like "we are
fed up with overblown American films screened in the Berlin competition,
Tasogare Seibei deserves the Golden Bear for its humanity and humility".

So that's one of the reactions the film got
