Waseda manga collection

There's an article on the Waseda Manga Bunko on the Waseda Library
website:

According to this, they will also be collecting some anime related
materials too.

It is nice to hear a major library in Japan is pursuing active collecting
in manga. But I should remind people that there are several other
institutions that already exist. For public institutions, the Kawasaki
City Museum has been collecting manga for years and has manga curators on
staff (right now they're doing an exhibition on French bande desinee).
Kyoto Seika University has a department of manga studies, so I assume
their library is also doing some major collecting.

Finally, we should never forget the valiant efforts of Naiki Toshio in
creating and continuing the Gendai Manga Toshokan, a private institution
near Waseda. It has far more works than Waseda has and should be a must
visit if you want to use the Waseda collection. (Personally, I would like
to see Waseda trying to support this institution as well.)

For those interested in academic studies of manga, you should note that
there is a Nihon Manga Gakkai which was formed about 3 years ago (I'm a
member). It's HQ is at Kyoto Seika:
