Suo Masayuki

For years I have wondered why Suo Masayuki did not direct any film
himself (he did produce some films) after Shall We Dance?.  Has anyone
got the answer?  This is surprising when many younger, older and
about-the-same-age directors with no strong box office records are
delivering new works.
