There are commercially produced VHS versions of her wartime films 
floating around--but none with subtitles. Beyond finding a fan-subbed 
version, I think your best bet is to contact the Japan Foundation 
office with jurisdiction over your area and ask if they handle any of 
them. The JF ends up handling a lot of subtitled film prints that were 
shown at festivals and retrospectives. There's a good chance they don't 
have any of them, but it's always worth a try.

In addition, the US Library of Congress has a 16mm print of Shina no 
yoru. When I saw it, it was without subtitles, but maybe you can 
inquire to see if they've made a subtitled version for some reason or 
other since then. Borrowing from them may not be easy, however.
