Dear KineJapaners,

I wondered if you aware of an excellent new site on Asian cinema
www.firecracker-media.com Of course they have been around for a while
as a magazine, which i write for regularly (my review of the Eureka
Naruse box set should appear there soon), only now they have
relaunched with an exciting new feature called Firecracker TV.
Basically they aim to Broadcast little known Asian films over the net
as pay-per-view content. The cost is roughly two pounds per film (but
you need to buy a package of credits) and judging from the initial
content this is going to be an excellent source for cineastes of
Eastern cinema.

At present there is a strong focus on Malaysian and Filipino
independant film. There is also a documentary by Zhang Yang on the
underground Beijing Rock scene and a Taiwanese film called Love's Lone
Flower, which they compare to In the Mood for Love. Up coming content
includes Nuan, the Chinese film that won the Grand prix at the Tokyo
Film Festival in 2003. There's nothing Japanese pencilled in just yet
but i'm sure there will be something in the pipeline eventually
(perhaps its more expensive to acquire rights for the Japanese films).

Take a look.
