Taniguchi Senkichi

The Asahi and other newspapers report that the film director Taniguchi 
Senkichi died on the 29th at the age of 95. Taniguchi is probably best 
known for his close association with Kurosawa Akira, the two often 
working together when they were assistant directors. Kurosawa 
contributed the script on Taniguchi's directorial debut, Ginrei no hate 
(which was also Mifune Toshiro's debut film), and co-wrote the script 
for Akatsuki no dasso, probably Taniguchi's most critically acclaimed 
film, which experienced many problems with Occupation censors, as 
detailed in Kyoko Hirano's book. Taniguchi eventually settled into 
making action movies at Toho, including the Kokusai himitsu keisatsu 
film that Woody Allen used in What's Up Tiger Lily. He was also 
involved in documentary, working on the official films of the Tokyo 
Olympics and the Osaka Expo. He was also famous for marrying the 
beautiful actress Yachigusa Kaoru (the Samurai trilogy, Yukiguni, 
etc.), who was 24 years his junior.
