Workers' Cinema J + E

One cannot understand the prewar and postwar independent cinema, doc and fiction, without serious attention to the role of organized labor. There is curious study group devoted to workers’ cinema and I’m not sure announcements have passed by KineJapan. I thought I’d put it out there and if anyone’s interested they can check it out....and report back!

It’s organized by Sato Yo, who one of the people behind the recent reprint of the middle chunk of Kinema Junpo. Yo-san has been doing some important programming and writing along these lines, and some excellent oral histories with people like Matsumoto Toshio and Makino Mamoru.

Incidentally, I was at Makino’s house a few weeks ago and he showed me the first release of the KineJun reprint. Hot off the press. I’ll write about it in a later message.

気がつくと秋風が吹いています。アッという間に夏は暮れていきますが、お元気にご活躍のことと存じます。
よくしていただいております労働映画上映会の夏休みもおわり、9月12日より上映会を再開いたします。前回の国労映画につづいての交通労働シリーズとして、今回は映画製作に力をいれていた海員組合の映画『戦標船改Ｅ』を上映します。仁田道夫先生から海員組合についての解説をたまわることができますので、どうかご参加ください。
