The Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies at the
University of Tokyo (UT) and the Department of Communication at Seoul
National University (SNU) annually co-sponsor a symposium on media and
communication. This year’s symposium is entitled “Mapping the Spaces
of Media Culture in Asia: Information, Communication and Politics”,
and will be held at the University of Tokyo on October 29-30, 2009.
This year’s symposium is proud to welcome the participation of City
University of Hong Kong and The Australian National University.

The convergence of media culture arising from the growth of new media,
diversity of distribution channels, and rise of global media producers
and consumers has heightened awareness of the importance of
communications and media studies. In Asia, cooperation in the study of
the changing media landscape’s impact on communication, culture, and
society is of profound importance to developing a secure and peaceful
future. The goal of the symposium is to join together scholars and
students to discuss the role of media in our rapidly changing world.
