Brian, are you only concerned with commercial TV? If so, this will not come under your criteria for "TV programs," but I remember seeing a bunraku play broadcast on PBS Boston around 1961. It was not an archive film but clearly shot and edited for screen viewing so it might possibly have
originated with NHK. It would be worth your while perhaps to check the history of NHK/PBS connexion just to cover educational TV in a footnote. Sumo broadcasts might also have been around in those days in certain areas of the country. Good luck. FB
