A couple of english-language translations of books on Japanese films that do not seem to have been mentioned on KineJapan :-
Camera Obtrusa the action documentaries of Hara Kazuo, by Hara Kazuo, translated by Pat Noonan and Takuo Yasuda, 2009, with a forward by ... Abé Mark Nornes. It's a paperback and I bought it at the BFI filmstore for £16.95 less member's discount.
Japanese and Hong Kong film industries : understanding the origins of East Asian film networks, YAU, Shuk-ting Kinnia, 2009, Routledge. 'from the Sino-Japanese war to the 1970s'. Alas, it's a Routledge, so, for all that money, you get barely readable print, particularly for the notes and appendices, which make up half - and probably the most valuable half - of the book. But it's an absolute mine of information, not least for the distribution and reception of Japanese films in Shanghai from 1942 to 1945, which I shall be plundering from. Translated by the author, previously published in Japanese and Chinese.
