Asian Studies: Modern Japanese Literature, Assistant, Associate, or
Full Professor, University of Hawai'i at Manoa, Department of East
Asian Languages and Literatures, tenure-track, position #83182, to
start August 1, 2011. Duties: Teach graduate courses in his/her area
of specialization, undergraduate courses in modern Japanese literature
and culture, courses in film or visual studies or popular culture, and
Japanese language courses; advise both undergraduate and graduate
students. Minimum qualifications: In hand by the time of the
appointment, a Ph.D. in modern or contemporary Japanese literature,
with demonstrated expertise in film/visual culture. High level of
proficiency in Japanese and English. For senior appointment, strong
record of publication in refereed journals or books. Desirable
qualifications: Research focus that includes film/media studies and/or
popular culture. A background in cultural studies. Experience teaching
Japanese language. Should be flexible enough to work in both
traditional areas of studies and an interdisciplinary environment.
Salary and rank: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. To
