	Assistant Professor of Japanese, Tenure Track

The Departments of Asian Studies and Modern Languages and Literatures 
invite applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Japanese 
Language. Tenure-track position.  Salary competitive.  Specialization 
open; ability to teach courses in  literature, cultural studies or film 
studies highly desirable.  Native/near native fluency in Japanese and 
English required. The position emphasizes language teaching at the 
beginning, intermediate, and advanced intermediate levels.  Other 
responsibilities of Japanese faculty may include: directing or 
recruiting for study away programs; supervising the Japanese Language 
House; teaching in the first-year seminar program.  Furman expects a 
strong commitment to and excellence in undergraduate teaching, but 
places high value on scholarship and professional development as well.
