Taira Tomi, the actress who became a symbol of Okinawa, died on the 6th at the age of 87. She became famous through the NHK Asadora *Churasan*, but I remember her most as a regular in Takamine Go's films. She did everything from film to underground theater. Her husband, Taira Susumu, appeared in a lot of productions with her. Both, for instance, appeared in Tsuru Henry, the Takamine film I wrote about in my piece in Islands of Discontent.
