Nosaki Akiyuki, the prominent Japanese novelist who may be best known as the author of the story on which Takahata Isao's Grave of the Fireflies was based (and for which he won the Naoki Prize), has died at the age of 85. He also authored the novel on which Imamura Shohei's The Pornographers was based. In addition to other works like American Hijiki, he was also famous as a singer and television personality. Quite a character, one of his most famous moments was punching Oshima Nagisa at a wedding anniversary party.
