Art Forum reports that the film critic and scholar Annette Michelson has died at the age of 96. You can read of her many activities here:

What is not mentioned is her work with regard to Japanese film. I should note that she not only translated Oshima Nagisa's writings into English (from a French version), but also revised and edited Noel Burch's To the Distant Observer.
