This is not directly related to film—though in the end everything is related to film!—but we will be holding the second edition of Verbal Arts of Japan on Sunday, March 30, at 4pm at Yale University. It will take place at 53 Wall Street.

The event aims to recreate the yose experience with a mixture of rakugo, kodan, and iromono performers. The following four will appear on stage:

San’yutei Hakucho (rakugo)	https://www.rakugo-kyokai.jp/members/52d20rqrk7rb
Kanda Yoko (kodan) www.koudan.jp/yoko <http://www.koudan.jp/yoko>
Ryutei Komichi (rakugo) https://komichinomichi.net/
Edoya Nekohachi (animal mimicry) https://edoneko5.info/

Almost all of it will be in Japanese with projected English subtitles. (Komichi-shisho will do a bit of her makura in English.) We’ll also do a workshop with them on Saturday morning. They will tour Chicago and UCLA after Yale.

I’ve spent over a year preparing for this, so I’m looking forward to the event. It’s free to feel free come by if you are in the neighborhood. If you want to participate in the workshop, please email me.
