I live in an area where both the Pearl Crescent (Phyciodes tharos) and
the Northern Pearl Crescent (Phyciodes selenis) are known to fly. What
are some identifying features to look for to separate the two species?
I have heard that distinguishing the two species is real difficult. Most
everything I have seen flying in Washtenaw county this year I think are
Pearl Crescents but some of the larger specimens I wonder about. It
would sure would be nice to know how common the Northern Pearl Crescent
has been in the past in Washtenaw and its adjacent counties.
