Wow, this is how I learned the word back in 1966 (self taught) when chasing
Agraulis vanillae in Southern California (I'm tempted to pronounce the
_elye_ ). Years later, when conversing with a few old duffers, I boldly
used the pronunciation Fri-TILL-uhry, much to my embarrassment. Had I of
known that this was the PROPER pronunciation in the U.K., I would have
returned the ration in double portion.
I love this newsgroup/list (interesting, even our own classification is
ambiguous).
