Something that has bothered me for a while now is how silent was the pasing
of Paul Gray - one of those "amateurs" who contributed so much to the study
of our butterflies. What fewer know is that in his last years he turned he
got hooked on Noctuid moths. He died several years back, and I have yet to
see any notice of this.

Paul was the person who got me turned on to Noctuids. I never met the man,
but he sent me many specimens and many long, handwritten letrters
encouraging me, replete with his photos of Noctuid genitalia done on his
"home-made" microscope-camera setup. He was one of the old school,
pre-computer, who took the time to share both his knowledge and specimens
freely. In the short time we corresponded he gave me more encouragement,
advice and just the sheer pleasure of sharing a love of this esoteric
avocation. I miss him dearly..........

I am sure many of you also met or in other ways had contact with Paul, and
I would love to hear more about him.
