No Barrie you are not the only person, it is a very outdated and incredibly
wasteful activity. A well made and positioned 'trap' will nearly always
keep its 'attractees' nice and cosy til morning.

PS It is just as despicable to feed the local bird population with the
contents of the trap, much better to release the insects after dark or near
shrubbage.
