Color book

The color book I used once for describing some hepialid larvae was
Kornerup, A, and Wanscher, J. H. (1978) Methuen handbook of color (3rd.
ed.) London, Eyre Methuen.

If memory serves me correctly, most if not all colors has a verbal
descriptor as well as
the code number. I used both in describing various colors. While there may
not be a
single color standard, and likely there never will be, at least a book of
this type provides
one with terms of reference. Even with the color book there are limitations
since the
texture of the insect can make it difficult to match the color with the
smooth color
surface of the illustration.
