MY list for a brief walk in the State Park (Mount Diablo) today; elev. 300 feet:
March 26, 2000

Antocaris sara (Sara Orange tip)
        - "many"; trail and hillside
P. rapae - 6;
         mustard lower cosmopolitan locations
N. antiopa (Mourning Cloak)
        - "many" - on willow streamside; fire trail
Phycoides mylitta (Mylitta cresent)
        - approx. 4 to 6; fire trail
A. californicus (tortoiseshell)
        - many ; streamside/firetrail
D. plexippus (Monarch) -
        - (1) upper White Canyon; woodland:
          99 and 100's % sure! : color, flight pattern (vs. tortoiseshell)
          and location - by a fall milkweed site; I thought since it
         looked quite worn that it must have come in from the coastal
         overwintering sites about 30+ miles west of here; even though no

         milkweed yet, it seemed like it might be "retracing" its steps perhaps?
